The Radiation Safety Policy Statement sets out the role of the Radiation Safety Advisory Committee in particular authorizing the committee to issue Nuclear Substance Permits as required under the Canadian Nuclear Safety Act.
Consistent with the objectives of the University of Saskatchewan's Health, Safety and Environment Policy, the Radiation Safety Advisory Committee (RSAC) is established under the authority of the President. The Radiation Safety Advisory Committee is authorized by the President to advise in the safe use of nuclear substances, radiation devices and prescribed equipment, make recommendations on policies, and approve procedures and guidelines. Further, the subcommittee of the Radiation Safety Advisory Committee, the Radiation Safety Protocol Approval Committee, is authorized to issue nuclear substance permits, as required under the Canadian Nuclear Safety Act.
In accordance with the University's Radiation Safety Code and on the recommendations of the Radiation Safety Advisory Committee, the Department of Health, Safety and Environment shall administer the Radiation Safety Program. The Department of Health, Safety and Environment has the authority to enforce University policies and regulatory standards.
All individuals must adhere to the University's Radiation Safety Code for the acquisition, use, storage, transportation and disposal of nuclear substances, radiation devices and prescribed equipment.
Nuclear Substance is defined as per Section 2 of the Canadian Nuclear Safety and Control Act. Radiation Device is defined as per Section 1 of the Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices and Radiation Devices Regulation.
Prescribed Equipment means the equipment prescribed by Section 20 of the General Nuclear Safety and Control Regulations.
