To help Permit Holders, who no longer actively work with nuclear substances but wish to keep an inventory of their nuclear substances, remain in compliance with regulatory requirements. Secondly, this policy will reduce the unnecessary risk of storage of nuclear substances in the laboratory.
This policy sets forth the actions that the University of Saskatchewan is prepared to take in order to remain in compliance with the Canadian Nuclear Safety and Control Act and Regulations and terms and conditions of various licenses issued to the University pertaining to nuclear substances.
If a Permit Holder foresees no handling of nuclear substances in the near future (less than one (1) year), or the Radiation Safety Office staff determines that no handling of nuclear substances has occurred over the past twelve months, then:
Permit holders may contact the Radiation Safety Office, Department of Health, Safety and Environment to make arrangements for removal and storage of nuclear substances from their laboratories.
A Nuclear Substance is defined as per Section 2 of the Canadian Nuclear Safety and Control Act.
A Permit Holder is a Principal Investigator or a faculty member authorized to work with radioactive materials or infectious agents by the President's Advisory Committee.
